I Get Questions

question.jpg I’m currently working on a Frequently Asked Questions page. Lately I’ve been answering one question over and over. “Weren’t you getting a real job?”

The truth is, I was. I had two offers and both paid about $325 per week (after taxes). The reason I was looking for work, in case you didn’t read CV in those days, was that we were having a financial crunch at my full-time gig at the church. Expenses up, income down.

At that time, our leadership team decided to do the following to address the situation: 1) we would take up a collection over 4 weeks to give away to another ministry, 2) we would look for alternative meeting space (one of our greatest expenses), while trying to negotiate with our landlord for lower rent, 3) we would pray and fast over those 4 weeks and 4) I would look for full-time work.

After 4 weeks we had found alternative space, I had two job offers and we had collected money to send to another ministry and a person in need. One of my friends talked with our landlord’s rep and they were willing to reduce our rent by 1/3. At the same time, our weekly income has increased as we all give a little more. So for now, I’m keeping my regular job as a pastor and holding off on any outside work and blogging in my spare time. It’s been pretty cool, very encouraging and challenging.

I’ll be working on a FAQ page for the blog, if you’ve got any Qs you can leave them here in comments and I’ll try answer them.

shelley: thank you for trying to get me in trouble. This will be a FAQ list and the F, in this case, will stand for ‘Frequently’, so I’ll wait ’til someone else asks one or more of your questions before I feel forced to answer.

I might share one or two of YOUR most embarrassing moments if asked though!
