Ode To A Bean

ode-to-a-bean.jpg This is the script I wrote for an, as of yet, unproduced short film by the above title. The producer/director that was teaching me how to use the camera felt it might be a little ambitious for my first film. What can I say, I’m a slave to my passions.

So here it is. Ode To A Bean, by me.

Fade in from black to the ambient sounds of a coffee bar, ala Spendbucks.

(Over all this the “sound” of the bean?)

Extreme close up on one coffee bean in bag.

Widen shot to see beans in the bag.

Bag gets open and put into the grinder.

Close up on grounds as they spin down into the grinding and then medium shot as the grinding fall into the filter.

Filter goes into the coffee maker.

Coffee drips out.

Pot sits.

Close up on level (full).

People coming to counter.

Close up on level (one cup gone).

People coming to counter.

Close up on level (3 cups gone).

People coming to counter.

Back to level (1 more cup gone).

Quick cut to coffee coming into cup, the cup with ‘the bean’.

Follow cup as it’s handed across counter to the hand.

Close up on cup as it comes up to nose.

Sniff.

Sound of: “Mmmmmmm.”

Coffee gets cream and sugar added. (Capture the beauty of the white cream swirling into the black coffee.)

Close up on cup as it goes to mouth.

Sip.

Smile.

Sound as it fades to black. “Aaaaaaah.” – the sound of satisfied fulfillment.

The End
